Ben’s practice focuses on serving clients in the areas of business, employment, real estate, and estate planning. His business practice includes formation, business planning, capitalization, sales, acquisitions and succession planning. He also represents clients in contract drafting and negotiation, emphasizing a practical approach to negotiations. Ben’s real estate practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate development, acquisition, leasing and sales. He has experience in single building projects, commercial development, as well as large-scale mixed-use developments. Ben also focuses on representing employers of all sizes with employment law issues.
Ben pairs his business experience with his real estate practice to advise clients on all aspects of transactions including financing. By getting to know his clients Ben tailors every transaction to meet their needs. This includes leveraging his estate planning experience to ensure business and real estate structures not only meet a client’s immediate objectives but are positioned to satisfy current or future estate and succession planning needs.
When advising employers Ben focuses on practical advice. He pairs a deep knowledge of the complex laws and regulations affecting employers with experience dealing with the human and emotional aspect of dealing with employees. This includes pre-termination advice to position the employer to avoid claims and post-termination guidance and defense when necessary.
Prior to joining Johnson Dauster & Thorson in 2015, Ben was an associate attorney at a Lincoln, Nebraska firm practicing general civil law. He received his B.S. in Business Administration with a focus in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2008 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska in 2011, graduating with distinction. Ben is a Fort Collins native and enjoys the Colorado lifestyle including skiing, biking, hiking and running. Above all Ben enjoys spending time with his wife Abbey and sons Sam and Hank.
